Jockey Club Sleep Well Project is a large-scale community outreach project that aims to promote sleep health and provide those experiencing insomnia with suitable interventions. This three-year project is funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, and launched in November 2023. The Department of Psychiatry of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK)’s Faculty of Medicine (CU Medicine), has co-organized this project along with five local non-governmental organizations, including The Mental Health Association of Hong Kong (MHAHK). The funding for MHAHK has reached HK$9.43 million. The project has the following three main objectives: 1. To promote and enhance sleep health culture 2. To provide a stepped care model that provides different levels of sleep intervention according to participants’ needs. 3. To enhance community support for sleep-related problems. The project targets individuals aged between 18 to 70 years old, who experience insomnia or concern about their sleep health. Cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) serves as the core component in the stepped-care support of the project. The service includes: - Cognitive-behavioral therapy for Insomnia (online course) - Cognitive-behavioral group therapy (in-person) - Sleep Assessment - Consultations (Online/in person), and - Sleep Health promotion activities To enhance community support for sleep-related problems, this project trained professionals including social workers, counsellors, and nurses to provide Cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia to those in need.
