Good Enough Carer Companionship Project
Project Brief


Funded by Advisory Committee on Mental Health, The Mental Health Association Of Hong Kong (MHAHK) launched ‘Good Enough Carer Companionship Project’ to respond to the challenges faced by the families of PWIDs in hostel services and to promote ‘self-determination’ education among PWIDs’ families.


This 2 years’ project aims at supporting the PWID families which using the MHAHK hostel service to improve their caregiving skills and enhance their awareness of 'self-care’. After that, the families can strike a balance between caregiving and life, as well as improving the physical and mental health. The project supports the families by providing a wide variety of services, such as individual support, groups and recreational programmes. 


The objectives of the project are as follows:

1. To strengthen the support and preparation for the carers whose relatives plan to have self-determination learning

2. To support the family to pick up the role of caregiving with sufficient knowledge in caring and self-compassion

3. To recognize caregiver’s effort by giving validation of their emotion and needs with tailor-made supports and practical self-help tips for mental calmness to prevent them from burn out 

4. To strengthen the family support and to maintain the families’ connect with the community 

5. To access a larger group of caregivers and provide a more convenient access in education and training by using the latest information technology
