"Joy in Sham Shui Po" Carnival and Joint Open Day of Lei Cheng Uk House & So Uk House

 


To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the organization and the 35th anniversary of Lei Cheng Uk House, the "Joy in Sham Shui Po" Carnival and House Open Day were successfully held on October 19. The event was organized by Lei Cheng Uk House and co-hosted by So Uk House, with sponsorship from the Sham Shui Po District Office's Community Involvement Program.

 

The carnival featured various booths set up by 17 collaborating partners.They provided different games and workshops. Besides, three performance groups entertained the guests during the ceremony. A team of volunteers from a secondary school also assisted throughout the day, contributing to the smooth running of the event.

 

The event attracted by the approximately 1,000 participants, including local residents, primary and secondary school students, parents, and service users. The carnival was filled with a joyful atmosphere as participants eagerly lined up to join various booth activities, such as Chinese martial arts experiences and different workshops. Meanwhile, attendees also visited both Lei Cheng Uk and So Uk Houses, where they took part in guided tours led by staff and volunteers, viewed exhibition panels, and engaged in interactive activities. These experiences provided insights into the modern services and developments of the rehabilitation hostels.

 

Participants could collect stamps on a task card and exchange them for gifts and souvenirs. They also enjoyed nostalgic snacks, drinks, and soft foods offered at both hostels. Visitors could also take photos at a community-themed mural featuring Sham Shui Po or try out special facilities designed for rehabilitation users. The event showcased the dynamic and creative side of the transitional hostels, highlighting the modern and forward-thinking approach of the community rehabilitation facilities.
